"A ceaseless flow of ideas"

This page is to promote awareness and appreciation of Ian Watson, one of the best contemporary science-fiction authors. A British writer of wit and intelligence who has been underpublished and underrecognized in the U.S., Watson's work is at once dense and challenging yet readable and entertaining.

He is the author of The Embedding, Miracle Visitors, Deathhunter, The Gardens of Delight, The Books of the Black Current, The Books of Mana, and many other fine novels and stories. His most recent book is The Great Mockymen (Golden Gryphon).

What makes Watson stand out from the crowd is the freedom of his imagination. His forte is ideas, the more mind-bending, the better. He is an explorer into the nature of consciousness. His quest into non-ordinary awareness leads to a magnificent transcendence of the mundane, to an appreciation of the multidimensional experience of reality.

The above quotation is from J. G. Ballard, who characterized Watson's work as "superb descriptive writing within a ceaseless flow of ideas."

This website will give you an overview of Watson's work, help you decide where to start, what to read next, and where to get his books. There are 28 novels and 8 books of short stories to date.
